Hon. Omar Farrugia MP
Hon. Omar Farrugia, born in 1995, is the youngest Minister in the Cabinet appointed following the general election of 30 May 2026. He serves as Minister for Youth, Wellbeing and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme.
His commitment to public service began in 2019, when he was elected Mayor of Mqabba at the age of 24. During the five years he led the Local Council, he was instrumental in delivering several regeneration and investment projects exceeding €5 million, including the regeneration of the town’s main square.
In 2022, he was elected to Parliament for the first time, representing the Fifth District. During his parliamentary work, he was also appointed Chairman of Sport Malta, where he continued to promote initiatives in favour of sport and a more active lifestyle.
In January 2024, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works. Under his leadership, the Public Works Department carried out a substantial number of embellishment and restoration projects across Malta and Gozo, while further strengthening collaboration with Local Councils to improve communities across the country.
After regaining the confidence of the electorate in the 2026 general election, Omar Farrugia was appointed Minister for Youth, Wellbeing and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme.
As Minister, he leads the Government’s efforts to strengthen opportunities for young people, continue promoting wellbeing in public policy and coordinate the implementation of the Electoral Programme’s measures across all Government ministries. His work is focused on results-driven governance, effective coordination between public entities, and the continuous improvement of citizens’ quality of life.
Omar Farrugia is graduated in Business and Management and in Project Management.
