The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA) is the principal advocate and coordinator for making information communications technology (ICT) accessible for disabled people and senior citizens in the Maltese islands. Our services assist disabled individuals and senior citizens in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology that is intended to maintain or improve the individual’s quality of life.

FITA’s principle function is to guide organisations in implementing ICT accessibility and provide support to disabled individuals and senior citizens in overcoming or removing barriers to education and employment through ICT. Through empowerment and social inclusion disabled persons and senior citizens need to rely less on family and state support. In ensuring that due steps are taken to minimise the digital divide, we aim to enable individuals to contribute productively to society and the economy.

The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA) was set up in 2000 by the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) and the National Commission Disabled Persons (CRPD) with the aim of addressing the digital divide and empowering disabled persons and senior citizens to make the most effective use of information communications technology (ICT).

Our Vision

FITA – The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility, values its employees by empowering them to achieve a Service of Excellence addressed to all senior citizens and persons with disabilities. By making technology accessible and reachable, the Foundation ensures equal attention, inclusivity and drive related to improving the lifestyle by using ICT.

Our Mission

To train and empower senior citizens and persons with disabilities, in utilising ICT, to create an enabling environment that provides such persons with equal opportunities.

Our Values

We believe in an ongoing commitment to excellence, continuous improvement through research, effective helpfulness at all times, and fairness of service performed with due diligence, respect, responsibility and integrity.

FITA’s office is based at Onda Business Centre, Level 3, Aldo Moro Street, Marsa.

FITA’s staff contingent consists mainly of highly empowered individuals. Each focusing on their respective areas of responsibility, they nonetheless benefit from strong teamwork, with everyone contributing to the best of his or her abilities. This working model is duplicated on a bigger scale across FITA’s whole operations, whereby networking with industry, public entities and NGOs plays an important part in implementing FITA’s goals and objectives through tangible initiatives and services.

Nowadays FITA still fulfills its original role as a research-based centre of excellence, promoting the use of ICT and assistive technology. However, to provide a holistic solution to narrowing the digital divide we also help other organisations via a number of services and initiatives. At the core of FITA’s activities are the ICT Accessibility Certification and the Assistive ICT Consultancy services.
